An APoS survey—short for Access Point on a Stick—takes Wi-Fi planning from the simulation into the actual building. We temporarily mount an access point on a tripod, measure its coverage at the proposed location, and optimize its position, height and orientation directly on site.

In production facilities and warehouses in particular, high-bay racks, stored goods, machinery, metal surfaces and changing stock levels have a significant impact on radio propagation. An APoS survey makes these effects measurable and provides a reliable basis for the final installation.

How an APoS survey works

Define requirements and test locations

We clarify the client devices, applications, required signal levels and roaming requirements. Floor plans and an initial Wi-Fi simulation help us identify suitable test locations.

Position the access point on a tripod

A suitable access point is temporarily operated at the proposed location and as close as possible to its final mounting height. This lets us test the radio cell before cabling or brackets are installed.

Measure, reposition and optimize

We record signal strength, signal quality, interference and coverage in all relevant areas. If necessary, we adjust the position, height or antenna orientation and measure again.

Document every position with photos

Confirmed AP locations are photographed and clearly marked on the plans. This provides an unambiguous basis for cabling, mounting and the final validation.

Why APoS is more precise than simulation alone

A simulation is an important starting point. APoS adds measurements from the real environment—exactly where the Wi-Fi network must perform reliably later.

Real materials

Metal racks, pallets, machinery, fire doors and ceiling structures are not merely modelled—they directly affect the measured signal.

Real mounting locations

We identify early whether a proposed location is accessible, where shadowing occurs, and which mounting height or antenna orientation performs better in practice.

Lower planning risk

Poor placements become visible before installation. This reduces later rework and provides confidence in AP quantity, cabling and mounting.
